Match Reports

Over this term some of our children have been writing match reports on the sports they have been involved with, it’s a great opportunity to get them thinking about how the matches were played and practices their writing skills in a way that really engages them. We hope to share these with you on a more regular basis using this blog in the spring term, for now, here’s a few highlights from the Autumn Term…

Match Report – Football – 17/09/14

On a muggy Wednesday at Abbotswood, the Year 6 Boys Football team faced Fair Oak School in the Hampshire Cup.

It was a fantastic start for Abbotswood who got the ball moving well on a tight pitch. The game started rapidly as both sides had a few chances at goal. Unfortunately, against the run of play Fair Oak drew first blood on the counter attack. Catching our defence off guard. 1-0 Fair Oak. However Abbotswood were playing very well but disaster struck again as the opponents scored just before half time putting us 2-0 down at the break.

The second half was a similar story with Abbotswood conceding 2 more goals from crosses due to the physical opponents. We kept persevering till the end with fantastic play from Tommy in midfield who hit the post and was linking up well with Logan and Josh in midfield. We finally got our reward with 2 well finished goals from Josh. The final score was Abbotswood 2 – Fair Oak 4.

Even though we lost this time, it was a great match and we will come back stronger because we are Abbotswood!

New Forest School Games Table Tennis Championships – 10/10/14

On Friday 10th October, Mr Perry and Mr Farley took 8 boys and 4 girls from years 5 and 6 to the New Forest Schools Table Tennis Championships held at Testwood School.

I really enjoyed playing table tennis and regularly beat my Dad, Mum and sister so I was quite excited about the competition.

The girls team played against 3 schools and we ended up with a bronze medal. Unfortunately we didn’t get to play the winning school otherwise I’m sure we would have won and ended up with gold.

The boys team also did extremely well in coming first and winning gold.

I very much hope that I’m lucky enough to go next year and strongly encourage other year 5 and 6’s to come along to table tennis club because it’s epic!
